Treorchy RFC 12 Bedwas RFC 6
WRU Championship East, Wednesday 18th February 2026.
Match report and photography by Ian Lovell.
Two late tries gave Treorchy a deserved win after a strong second half claimed the spoils with two late tries.
Heavy rain leading up to kick-off and all through the game made life extremely difficult for both sides.
Bedwas took the lead after seven minutes thanks to a James Dixon penalty. Both sides’ handling skills were tested by the weather conditions, and the game was mostly played between the two twenty-two-yard lines with try scoring chances at a premium.
A second James Dixon penalty after thirty-two minutes was the only other score of the first half.
Treorchy controlled the vast majority of possession in the second half with Bedwas unable to penetrate a well drilled defence.
Bedwas replaced both starting props after 50 minutes but the home sides dominance at the scrum continued.
Bedwas also defended well for long periods but eventually succumbed to an Ellis Fackrell try with around ten minutes left to play. Jordan Lloyd converted to put his side ahead.
The Treorchy comeback did not end there. Deep into stoppage time winger Callum Elward crashed through a tired defence to put the game beyond Bedwas. Fortunately (for Bedwas) Jordan Lloyd’s conversion missed the target and Bedwas hung on for a losing bonus point.
Congratulations to Treorchy for taking the Bedwas unbeaten run, this is the first time this season that Bedwas have not registered a single try in a game.
Bedwas are next in action on Saturday 28th February when we make the short journey to Ystrad Mynach to face Penallta RFC.
