Ynysddu RFC 7 Bedwas RFC 63.
WRU Admiral Championship East, Saturday 14 March 2026.
Match report and photography by Ian Lovell.
Six tries in a more fluent second half saw off a dogged Ynysddu.
On a sunny, mild afternoon Bedwas opened the scoring after five minutes courtesy of a Dale Rogers try under the posts, James Hallett converted.
Nine minutes later Luke Crane doubled the advantage with a well-executed try, Hallett again adding the extras. Almost immediately Adam Williams added a third try out wide after a characteristic run through several would be tacklers to cross in the corner. Hallett landed the tricky kick.
Bedwas seemed to go ‘into their shells’ for much of the remaining first half and although Ynysddu would have hoped to capitalise it wasn’t until the thirty fourth minute that the Bedwas defence was breeched thanks to a try and conversion by Jake Morgan.
No further scores were added in the opening period.
Bedwas re-focussed for the second half and with three minutes played Luke Crane burst through for the teams’ fourth and bonus point try. Hallett again converting.
Tails up Bedwas added a fifth try shortly afterwards from a catch and drive move with Harry Oliver touching down. Hallett maintained his one hundred per cent kicking record with a successful conversion.
Bedwas then made multiple changes with the starting props being replaced, Luke Crane being replaced by Jak Robbins and Dale Rogers making way for Lewis Crane who with this appearance notches up fifty appearances for the club. Congratulations to him.
Aaron Billingham crossed for the sixth try of the afternoon after 54 minutes, again Hallett converting from out wide.
The home side lost a man to the sin bin for a bad tackle and a couple of brief fisticuffs were evident, but Bedwas maintained their grip on the game with a second try of the afternoon for Adam Williams converted by Hallett.
Bedwas kept up the work rate and two tries in the last five minutes, one each for Jak Robbins and Rhys Morgans both converted by Hallett completed a much better second half for Bedwas.
Next week Bedwas host Abertillery B.G in their first home game since January 31st.
The Bedwas Man of the Match was awarded to Adam Williams.
