Bedwas continued their winning ways overcoming an Abertillery side who fought hard throughout the contest.

On an overcast mild November afternoon Bedwas got off to the perfect start with Luke Crane running through a huge gap in the home defence with less than one minute played. James Hallett added the conversion from in front of the posts.

Abertillery had a chance to reduce the arrears the arrears a minute later, but Clayton Gullis’s penalty shot drifted wide, but he made amends four minutes later after Bedwas were penalised at a ruck.

Bedwas began to pick up momentum and a kick through bamboozled the home defence before Aaron Billingham pounced on the loose ball. Hallett was again successful from the kicking tee.

The game went through a quiet patch before Bedwas increased their lead with just over thirty minutes played. After a penalty was kicked to touch the Bedwas pack drove the ball over the line with Arwel Hughes claiming the try. Hallett continued his good form in adding the conversion.

Two minutes later with Bedwas in the ascendancy a second try of the afternoon for Aaron Billingham earned Bedwas a four try bonus point. Hallett added the extras, but no more points were added before the half time whistle.

As in the first half Bedwas were quick out of the blocks in the second half. With two minutes elapsed Lewis Bowden broke through, shrugged off would be defenders to cross under the posts. Hallett converted.

Aaron Billingham squeezed in adjacent to the right-hand corner flag for Bedwas’s sixth try (and his third) after fifty-three minutes. Hallett maintained his 100% kicking accuracy from the narrow angle.

Replacement scrum half Jak Robbins made an immediate impact after coming off the bench as he ran through from thirty metres having supported an Adam Williams break. Hallett added the conversion.

With the game over as far as the result was going to be Bedwas replaced both starting props and Dale Rogers.

Scoring wise Bedwas were not finished and with around six minutes to play Tristan Kugler broke through to cross on Bedwas’s right. Hallett blotted his copy book as his conversion drifted wide.

Next week Bedwas host Aberdare RFC in a Championship East fixture, please note this game kicks off at 1-30pm due to the Wales v Japan fixture later in the afternoon.
