Update (Day 5 / Thurs 20 Feb)

Blue skies over the village now but the work down the club continues as we approach the weekend. Great to have some more faces down the club today as people find time between work and family commitments to do their bit.

Today we tore out the carpet in the lounge room. We had removed all the water from it and tried to treat it but it was beyond repair and very unsanitary. Cleaning and removing parts of the floor there has been a tough old job! We’ve also been filling even more bins today as we scour every inch of the club. We’ve also being doing work on doors and fittings that have swollen from flood water so there’s plenty happening down there at the moment! The Bedwas RFC Youth boys are enjoying a well-earned day off today having given up so much of their half term.

We have some great donations today, for instance we’ve had meal vouchers from both Angel Bar and Grill in Hendredenny and Casa Mia Restaurant Caerphilly thank you both for these. We have also been donated some alcohol from MB Kitchens which is fantastic.

Donations continue to come in to our crowd funder which is great too. Some people have asked why the “target” on GoFundMe is being raised and that is because we still have no final estimate of cost. Our destroyed white goods are worth thousands of pounds, new raised flooring is thousands of pounds, we may need a new generator which could be approximately £15k and these are just to name a few costs – with loss of trade set to hit us. People are donating to the club because it has a special place in their hearts and this makes us so proud to be Bedwas!

Despite the pressures, we’re thinking positive and we hope to be featured on ITV Cymru Wales news this evening so we can update people on how we’re getting on. Today the WRU also announced that it has a package of support to help clubs which is very welcome and we will hope to have more detail in due course.

Don’t forget, Saturday we’re looking forward to a day of rugby with Bedwas v Neath at 1pm at Ystrad Mynach CSE followed by Wales v France at the club. We’re going to be running a great raffle with some fantastic prizes and there will be food available too. Raffle prize donations are gratefully accepted!

As ever, donations can be made to our crowd funder here: tinyurl.com/ral6hk9 and thanks for your continued support!
