Rest in Peace John Coppage

Bill Price, Director of Bedwas RFC was recently contacted by Robert Coppage who’s father John was a former player of Bedwas RFC. He writes the following:

My father, John Coppage, played for Bedwas in the late 1940s and early 1950s when living in Llanbradach and whilst at school in Caerphilly and at university in Cardiff. I doubt there is anyone connected with the club who knew my father although you did mention Peter Gay who is a few years younger.

My father died on 19th May at the age of 92.

After living his early years in South Wales, John initially moved to Hertfordshire and then to various locations in the UK and also spent time in France and Spain. He played rugby for my local club, Hitchin, and for London Welsh.

He lived his later years in North East Lincolnshire.

Throughout all this time, he has maintained a keen interest in Bedwas Rugby Club. And I am sure he has spoken to a number of individuals associated with the rugby club from time to time. It would great if you could source any pictures taken around the time that he played for the club.

I will make sure that I let you know when I am visiting and I am sure that will happen later this year. If the timing is right I could come to a game and we could have a pint afterwards.
