Mini and Junior section continues to thrive

As the season approaches and all pathway teams are back in training, we turn our attention to the Bedwas RFC Mini and Junior section.  With 150 registered players by the time the season begins and with the incredible work done behind the scenes by team managers, coaches and the mini and junior committee with the new online WRU registration process.  All teams begin their first fixtures on the 2nd September.

Currently Bedwas RFC have an U7’s, U8’s, U9’s, U10’s, U11’s, U13s, U15s and U16’s teams.  Our main team spotlight goes to the U13s as this team have merged with the U12’s this season due to the coaches recent departure.

The U13’s are a mixed team made up of players whereby a small number have been registered with Bedwas RFC since U7’s, Morgan, William and Ffion and two who joined at U9’s Luca and Evan.  There were five players that had merged from the U12’s this season which has meant that three players have had to play up a year.  One of these players Rhiannon was awarded the Most Improved Player Award last season and it should be noted that Rhiannon is not the only female player in this squad she is joined by Megan and Ffion.  We want to thank all these players and their parents for their commitment to the continuation of the team since they have been merged and we hope that their unity will indeed attract new players to join and increase their squad numbers.

The team goals this season is to increase engagement of players primarily in the U12s age group so that they can become an individual team once again, which will in turn allow all players in the current merged squad to increase individual participation on game days in the future.

Bedwas RFC will be keen to work closely with local WRU Development HUB officers and their allocated schools in the area to ensure that these goals can be achieved and in time increase player numbers across the whole mini and junior section.

You will see the mini and juniors in action when the Principality Premiership fixtures begin for the 1st XV on the 1st September as they enthusiastically support the team in the Guard of Honour along with our club mascot Bedwas Bear.  They have already done a wonderful job in our first pre-season friendly against Trebanos RFC and will again do the same when Marlborough RFC travel to The Bridgefield this Saturday.

The main sponsors for the mini and junior section this season are TSM Construction, Gas Gold, I Brolly, Caerphilly Skip Hire, Picton Jones, JCP Solicitors and MSS.  We want to thank them for their financial backing and support as they continue to support our grass roots players.

Good luck to the mini and juniors this season and we will continue with updates from them during the season.
