Bedwas maintained their position as early leaders of the Championship East division handing out a twelve try drubbing of Talywain.

On a mild, dry October afternoon it took Bedwas just two minutes to open the scoring. A penalty was conceded by the visitors and from the ensuing lineout the home pack drove the visitors back and Ben Eedy crossed for a try. James Dixon added the conversion.

Try number two followed quickly as a break down the Bedwas right wing was superbly finished by Will Mahoney on his debut. Dixon’s touchline conversion hit the target.

An Ethan Davies penalty for Talywain gave his colleagues a foothold in the game after eight minutes but it was Bedwas who scored next via another catch and drive manoeuvre with flanker Owen Jones claiming he try. Dixon’s conversion went wide.

The Bedwas onslaught continued with the fourth and bonus point try in the bag after eleven minutes courtesy of a trademark Adam Williams try. Dixon added conversion.

Bedwas continued to dominate possession and after seventeen minutes James Dixon’s surging run down the middle was finished off by supporting runner Ben Eedy, Dixon adding the extras from in front of the posts.

A clearly shell shocked Talywain tried to pick themselves up, but Bedwas were resolute in defence and when the chance came to extend the lead Mike Dacey scored try number six from another catch and drive set piece. Dixon’s conversion missed.

Seven minutes later a move down the right flank was rewarded with a try for Harry Oliver who stretched out to dab the ball down wide of the posts, again the conversion was wide.

As the half drew towards the half time interval Bedwas were not finished. Adam Williams claimed his second try of the afternoon converted by Dixon to put Bedwas fifty points to three ahead with two minutes remaining before the interval.

In those remaining two minutes Bedwas lost scrum half Jak Robbins to injury replaced by Luke Crane and Talywain were reduced to fourteen men with the sin binning of one of their players for back chat to the referee.

Bedwas made changes at the start of the half, but it was the visitors who scored first courtesy of a try by former Bedwas player Sam George which was unconverted.

Bedwas reasserted control and try number nine soon came with Mike Dacey adding his second of the afternoon, converted by Dixon.

Replacement Will Fishlock got on to the store sheet not long after joining the fray, Dixon adding the extras as Bedwas continued their offensive efforts.

Talywain tried to hang on but this wasn’t their day as Lewis Bowden crashed through the defence for try number eleven, James Hallett successfully taking over kicking duties with twelve minutes to play.

Mike Dacey ran through for his third and Bedwas’s twelfth try of the afternoon with eight minutes remaining on the clock, Hallett’s kick sailing wide.

Talywain grabbed a consolation try with five minutes remaining through Number 8 Bryn Jones converted by Ethan Davies in what was the last play of the day as the referee blew to end the contest early.

The Bedwas Man of the Match award sponsored by Casa Mia Restaurant of Caerphilly was awarded to Dale Rogers.

Next Saturday Bedwas are back at the Bridgefield as we welcome local rivals Penallta RFC, kick-off is at the usual time of 2-30pm.
