Promoting our partners-part 3

This week in promoting our partners we turn the spotlight to a company that has printed our home programmes for many years and provided us a consistent platform to communicate to our supporters.

Stephens & George Print Group is located in Merthyr Tydfil. They are the UK’s leading printing company of magazines, brochures, catalogues and commercial products.

With offices in London, Glasgow and Manchester, Stephens & George delivers quality printed products to all parts of the country. Part of the Group is Ignition Sports Media which is a sports programme specialist.

However S&G never lose sight of what makes them unique, their community. Great emphasis, importance and pride in their community helps the company to prosper and succeed in a very competitive marketplace.
Established in Aberdare in 1912, Stephens & George moved to their headquarters in Dowlais in 1995, where the company continues to grow from strength to strength.
Now the largest privately owned company in the Borough of Merthyr Tydfil employing 230 dedicated staff, with the majority living within a 10 mile radius of the factory.
Stephens & George is heavily involved not only within their local community but also within the valleys North of Cardiff. They sponsor a select number of local rugby, football and cricket clubs, choirs and various other community based activities.

In 2012 Stephens & George’s celebrated its centenary by founding their own charity, the Stephens & George Centenary Charitable Trust.

Vanessa Jones, the Chair of Trustees, was alarmed by the low levels of literacy and numeracy of children within the local area. As a result the charity primarily focuses on increasing the standards of these disciplines through an array of community based activities and programmes.

Libraries have been built within local schools, children’s chess clubs created, and reading volunteers attend schools. Baby Bookworm is a project to encourage parents of pre-school children to interact and read to their babies. All funded and run by the charity. An annual festival takes places within the community on World Book Day, with all local schools participating, helping to create a unique and wonderful experience for all. Using venues within the town of Merthyr helping to support smaller businesses whilst generating a wonderfully positive atmosphere.

The Charity also provides opportunities for volunteers within local area to work within the charity to improve their work-based skills as well as building individuals’ self-confidence and has had considerable success with helping these volunteers into employment.

We at Bedwas RFC thank Stephens and George for their valued support and their commitment to the importance of community.
