Bedwas 1st XV got their preseason fixtures off to a flying start with an entertaining victory in Wiltshire.

The game was played over four twenty-minute periods to allow coaches the opportunity to assess options and fitness.

The first period saw Marlborough come out of the blocks quickly and two tries in the opening seven minutes by prop forward Ashley Horner and winger Dylan Davies one of which was converted put their side ahead.

Bedwas responded with a Dale Rogers try converted by Ben Lewis and just before the break a Leo Geraci try improved upon by Lewis.

It only took a minute for Bedwas to extend their advantage at the start of the second period, Leo Geraci diving in at the corner for an unconverted try.

Marlborough hit back with an unconverted try but a Brynley Toms try extended the Bedwas lead; Ben Lewis converted.

Bedwas finished the half with a well-executed catch and drive from 25 metres the try being credited to Jo Hole. Lewis converted.

Leo Geraci added a third try which went unconverted before Tyler Picton crossed for a try converted by Lewis.

Jo Hole completed the scoring driving over from a close-range tap penalty. Llewelyn Brown took over kicking duties, but his conversion attempt went wide.

Bedwas Man of the Match was awarded to Leo Geraci.

Bedwas RFC wish to thank Marlborough RFC for their first-class hospitality and the warm welcome received. We would like to wish them a successful season.

The Bedwas first team are next in action on Friday 23 August when Taffs Well RFC are the visitors the Bridgefield.
