Club Statement – Martyn Evans

Bedwas RFC has seen the recent press coverage concerning a member of its Bedwas Barbarians 2nd XV member, Martyn Evans.

The club’s management have been appalled to learn of the full facts of Mr. Evans’ conduct and his convictions. The club has taken the action of suspending Mr. Evans from both the Barbarians squad and the club premises. This case will be dealt with in line with the club’s disciplinary procedure.

The club does not routinely vet/DBS check players unless they have wider coaching/off-field duties around the club. This is in line with the Welsh Rugby Union’s Safeguarding policy, to which the club adheres to in the running all of its rugby activity. The club has been in contact with the Welsh Rugby Union regarding this case and they have advised the club that the Union’s safeguarding department are fully aware of the situation.

The club, along with all member clubs of the Welsh Rugby Union, stands opposed to misogyny and violence against women and this behaviour will not be tolerated at the club.
