Bedwas bounced back from the disappointment of losing at Treorchy to record a bonus point win over a physical Penallta side.

On a dry sunny afternoon Bedwas were immediately on the offensive with Luke Crane coming close to opening the scoring early in the game before he was stopped by a high tackle. From the ensuing penalty Bedwas mauled forward in numbers, backs and forwards combining to drive Luke Crane over. James Dixon added the conversion.

Adam Williams had an opportunity to double the Bedwas lead but slipped when gathering the ball and knocked the ball on.

Bedwas doubled their lead after fifteen minutes. A break by Tristan Kugler backed up by Aaron Billingham saw the latter dive in at the corner for a try. James Dixon successfully converted from close to the touchline.

For the next twenty-five minutes the game became a bit of a wrestle as both sides fought to gain the upper hand.

On the stroke of half time Bedwas attacked the home line and with Penallta illegally stopping a Bedwas maul a penalty try was awarded by referee Ellis Poulden. Home hooker Jonny Wright was adjudged the guilty party and shown a yellow card for his troubles.

Bedwas lost James Dixon early in the second half through injury, James Hallett entering the fray in his place. Ben Sier was also replaced by permit player Aaron Harris.

Tristan Kugler added the Bedwas fourth and bonus point winning try after seven minutes of the second half following a break by Adam Williams. James Hallett converted.

Bedwas made further changes with both starting props being replaced and Luke Crane being withdrawn to be replaced by his cousin Lewis with Tristan Kugler moving to scrum half.

Midway through the half Penallta got on to the score board courtesy of a Lewis Stevens try, converted by Gethin Coleman.

Bedwas were not finished and a second Tristan Kugler try converted by Hallett put the game beyond any chance of a comeback.

Penallta continued to battle hard and on the last play of the game Corey Tucker ran through for a try under the posts. Coleman added the conversion which was immediately followed by the referee blowing his whistle to end the contest.

The Bedwas Man of the Match was awarded to Ben Eedy with honourable mentions to Tristan Kugler and Jake Lee for their efforts.

Next Saturday (7th March) Bedwas head to Rumney, Cardiff for a Championship game. Kick off 2-30pm.
