Bedwas U13’s rugby action was at home this morning to Oakdale RFC. Bedwas currently have 18 registered players and this season have combined with the U12’s. Bedwas 1st XV players Dale Rogers and Tom Rowlands were up bright and early to support them after their tough fixture against Pontypridd RFC to encourage and inspire the next generation of pathway players.
From the whistle blow the Bedwas U13s stepped up to the mark with some spectacular defending, notably Captain Kyle Whitefoot-James with a superb charge down to prevent Oakdale from crossing the try line, a tackle very similar to that of 1st XV No. 6 Jonathan Armitage in last night fixture against Pontypridd RFC.
Another formidable presence on the field was lady of rugby Megan Morris, one of three ladies in the team, ruthless in her running and relentless in her tackling. After a short period off the field with an injury, she returned to the field with an authority that cannot be ignored.
It was a morning of try scoring for Bedwas and Oakdale with the half-time score at 38-21. 1st XV players Dale and Tom both gave some encouraging words at half-time to our players and observations of the first half.
The second half was very much the same as the first as these young players on both sides displayed their individual rugby talent as they develop into junior rugby. Dale and Tom were impressed by the Oakdale No.10 who had some real kicking flair, and Bedwas player Jayden Birk who had some real pace in open space as he crossed the whitewash.
Bedwas tries came from players: Kyle Whitefoot-James, Megan Morris, Jayden Birk and Morgan Greening finishing the game on a final score of 69-21, the first Bedwas U13 win this season.
The Bedwas U13s comprise of the following players: Tian Morgan, Ffion Lewis-Jones, Axel Stubbings, William Manley, Kyle Whitefoot-James ©, Ieuan Protheroe, Tyler Rees, Morgan Greening, Reiley Smith, Luca Zenanti-Parsons, Rhiannon Hughes, Jayden Birk, Osian Mock, Byron Morgans and Megan Morris. Coaches are Oliver Hughes and Ewan Kier and Team Manager is Sarah Manley. We at Bedwas RFC are excited to see what the future holds for this team.
Man of the match was awarded to Kyle Whitefoot-James and Woman of the Match was awarded to Megan Morris by our 1st XV players. Congratulations to all the players who took part today and thank you to Oakdale for making the journey to us.
