A 4-30am start for the Bedwas team coach contributed to making this a very difficult task for Bedwas.

Bedwas started strongly and took the lead when wing Jordan Rees intercepted a stray and broke through for a try converted by Joe Scrivens.

The home side settled and levelled the scores when a fine break from captain Evan Yardley led to a smart off-load to Jones, who went over for his first touchdown, which was converted by Billy McBryde.

Before the break the Gogs had established a seven-point lead. A solid scrum by RGC led to the ball being worked wide for Tom Hughes to go over, another two points being added by the boot of McBryde.

A McBryde penalty extended the RGC lead after the break, but the travellers were far from finished. They thought they had scored a try, but it was disallowed for a forward pass.

The crucial score arrived when Efan Jones dotted down for a brilliant individual try, the extras again being added by McBryde.

And Jones completed his treble with RGC’s bonus-point try.

Bedwas replied with a touchdown of their own through Tom Devine which went unconverted, and looked to have added another, but it was ruled out for a knock-on.

RGC had the last word when Dan Owen crossed under the posts for a final try, McBryde succeeding again from the tee.
