Bedwas host Cardiff Met RFC this Saturday

Another week, another challenge for Bedwas RFC as we welcome the students and staff of Cardiff Metropolitan University to the Bridgefield on Saturday.

On November 18th as Bedwas headed to Treorchy one place above the bottom space in the league table things were not looking too rosy. Fast forward four weeks and three successive victories has seen the team move up the table to sixth position.

However, we can expect a tough game on Saturday from what is certain to be a well drilled student side, a fact reflected upon by Head Coach Pat McGee going into the game: ‘There are a lot of positives from our last few games, but we know we have to be at our best to get a result on Saturday. Lots of hard work has been put in over the last week and we’re looking forward to our first game of our festive period.’

Cardiff Met are currently second in the table having won seven out of nine fixtures, their two defeats being 19 points to 20 at home to ourselves and 28 points to 14 at Bargoed on the 11th of November.

Bedwas make two changes to this week’s starting line-up. Hamish Anderson starts on the wing with Liam Jenkins moving to the bench the remaining backs being unchanged. Up front there is a return on permit of Number 8 Lewis David so Jo Hole drops to the bench with Tommy Chapman moving to lock forward and Dale Rogers to blind side flanker.

Late changes to the team see Max Rivers withdrawing from the team and Hamish Anderson moving to outside centre and Liam Jenkins coming in on the wing. Jacob Wright fills the vacant place on the bench.

On the bench we welcome a permit player in Jeffery Young, a hooker from Cardiff Met RFC 2nd xv who replaces the injured Arwel Hughes.

The full twenty is: 15. Lloyd Wilkins, 14. Liam Jenkins, 13. Hamish Anderson, 12. Lewis Bowden, 11. Aaron Billingham, 10. James Dixon, 9. Jak Robbins; 1. Ryan Thomas, 2. Lewis Crane, 3. Rhys Hutcherson, 4. Harry Oliver, 5. Tommy Chapman, 6. Dale Rogers ©, 7. Rhys Morgans, 8. Lewis David.

Replacements:

  1. Ben Drew, 17. Jeffery Young, 18. Jo Hole 19. Sean Morris, 20. Jacob Wright.

Referee: Ellis Poulden.

Bedwas RFC Vice Presidents will sponsor the match, once again we are very grateful for the support of this fine bunch of men.
