Bedwas began their 2023 -24 season on a sunny, warm early September afternoon, and after an evenly contested first half Beddau were more clinical in the second half to claim the spoils.

Beddau opened the scoring after five minutes as Number 8 Dylan.I.Wiliams crashed over as his side capitalised on a handling error by Bedwas. Cody Baker added the extras.

A James Dixon penalty two minutes later saw Bedwas back in the game but the joy was short-lived as back rower Jordan Goodwin powered over for a try that was unconverted.

Dixon added a second penalty halfway through the half which appeared to give Bedwas some confidence and ten minutes later after having a Dale Rogers try attempt ruled over as ‘held up’ good work by the pack saw the ball spread wide for Jack Guy to score in the right-hand corner. Dixon added the conversion to put ahead for the first time in the contest.

Cody Baker added a penalty goal after 35 minutes only for James Dixon to add his third penalty on the stroke of half time to put 16 points to 15 ahead at the interval.

Beddau came out for the second half and within two minutes were back in front courtesy of a try and conversion by Cody Baker.

Baker added a penalty almost halfway through the half before Bedwas had a try disallowed for a knock on as the ball was grounded.

Although Beddau were awarded the majority of the scrum penalties throughout the game with Bedwas adjudged to be ‘wheeling’ the scrum it was Beddau who were reduced to 14 men as Captain Jordan Goodwin trudged off to the sin bin for backchat.

Bedwas tried to get back into the game, but the visitors defence held strong and Bedwas couldn’t find a way through.

A third Cody Baker penalty of the afternoon with three minutes left to play ensured Beddau were deservedly going home with the points.

The Bedwas Man of the Match sponsored Casa Mia Restaurant of Caerphilly was awarded to James Dixon.

Next Saturday (9th September) Bedwas head to Cyncoed the home of Cardiff Met RFC, kick-off at 2-30pm.
