Bedwas maintained their 100% start to the league season running in eleven tries against an Aberdare side who, to their credit, did not throw in the towel.

The were fears before the game that Storm Claudia sweeping across the country would make the pitch unplayable. Fortunately, this was not the case, and the pitch was in excellent condition considering the heavy rainfall the previous few days.

The game started with the sun shining on a mild November afternoon.

Bedwas got off to a quick start and took the lead after four minutes. Good handling by the whole squad moving the ball across the field and back again resulted in a try for Lewis Bowden in the left-hand corner. James Hallett missed the conversion attempt.

Ten minutes later Rhys Morgans celebrated his 100th appearance for the club with a try under the posts, Hallett added the extras.

Bedwas continued to dominate proceedings and increased their lead four minutes courtesy of a Luke Crane try which was unconverted.

Luke Crane grabbed a second try after twenty-eight minutes to bring up a try scoring bonus point for Bedwas, Hallett this time successfully converting.

Bedwas seemed to their collective feet off the gas for the remainder of the half and just before the half time Aberdare got reward for their industry as winger Ben Miller crossed for a try converted by Garyn Payne.

The second half began with Bedwas making changes with Adam Williams being replaced by James Dixon.

Mike Dacey increased the Bedwas lead with three minutes of the half elapsed from a well-rehearsed move following a line out. Replacement James Dixon’s conversion kick from wide out sailed across the posts.

Dacey added a second try ten minutes later this time Dixon adding the conversion.

Bedwas made further changes with both starting props being substituted as well as Ben Sier making way for Will Fishlock and Dale Rogers coming on for Lloyd Jones.

Mike Dacey dived in at the corner to grab his third try of the afternoon (and his side’s seventh) after sixteen minutes of play, Dixon’s conversion did not quite have the legs to dissect the posts.

The Bedwas onslaught continued after nineteen minutes with Luke Crane notched his third try of the day again though Dixon missed his conversion kick.

After scoring three tries in six minutes Bedwas slowed down and it was not until the twenty-seventh minute that the scoreboard could show a further score with James Hallett crossing, this time Dixon successfully added the extras.

Bedwas continued to dominate and with two minutes left on the clock Aaron Billingham dived in for a try improved upon by Dixon.

With the last play of the game Bedwas brought up try number eleven of the afternoon as Rhys Hutcherson plunged over for a try. Dixon converted and the referee blew his whistle to end proceedings.

Bedwas are not in action next Saturday due to the Wales v New Zealand game in Cardiff but there is a friendly fixture taking place on Thursday 20 November at Sardis Road, Pontypridd. Kick-off is at 7-15pm.
