Llanelli RFC 7 Bedwas RFC 6
Principality Welsh Premiership, Saturday 13April 2013.
Match report and photography by Ian Lovell.
Bedwas earnt a deserved bonus point from a hard fought game between two evenly matched teams.
The game started at a fast pace but defences dominated. Bedwas had the majority of possession but against the run off play Llanelli took the lead on 13 minutes via a Nick Reynolds try, converted by Jordan Williams.
Bedwas continued to dominate possession but could not break through the home defence. Ethan Davies missed a penalty goal chance mid way though the half before hitting a post with a second attempt.
The second half began in pouring rain but it did not inhibit either sides handling.
As in the first half Bedwas maintained the lions share of possession and finally got on the board via an Ethan Davies penalty on 49 minutes after the home side were deemed offside. Less than 10 minutes later Davies added a second penalty after the home side were again adjudged offside in a similar area of the pitch.
Bedwas continued to take the game to their hosts but for all their possession they could not penetrate a well organised defence.
Ethan Davies had a chance to put Bedwas ahead after 75 minutes with a long range kick but sadly it fell just short of the posts and the hosts held on to win the game.
This result still leaves Bedwas in second spot in the league on 65 points with Llanelli third on 61 points, with Bedwas having two matches left to play and Llanelli three.
Next Saturday, 20 April Bedwas entertain run away league leaders Pontypridd in what will hopefully be an entertaining game before Llandovery visit the Bridge Field on 27 April to complete the regular season before the play-offs.
