Bedwas have never won at Sardis Road but on the visit to an under strength Pontypridd feelings in the camp were good that an upset might well be caused. With captain Hywel Jenkins banned for one match for receiving three yellow cards Bedwas were led by Deri Mattravers.

Bedwas started brightly enough but dropped passes in midfield proved costly as first centre Adam Thomas and then flanker Darren Waters profited from those errors to claim tries both converted by scrum half Baller. Baller added a further two penalties as his side surged into a deserved 20-0 half time lead with Bedwas bereft of ideas in attack but defending reasonably well.

Any hopes Bedwas had of a comeback evaporated early in the second half, Kristian Baller added a try he converted himself and then referee Fear awarding Ponty a penalty try for a high tackle on Nathan Strong, converted by Baller and the home side led by 34 points to nil. Any chances of a Bedwas comeback were slim.

A glimmer of hope appeared as Ponty found themselves down to 14 men as replacement Gavin Morris was sin binned for a spear tackle. Replacement scrum half running through for a good solo try, Greendale adding the conversion. Ponty had the last word however as they lifted their game and replacements Gary Williams and Dean Gunter crossed for Baller to add the extras and complete a disappointing afternoon for Bedwas.

Bedwas man of the match: Deri Mattravers-the veteran forward was quite superb in a well beaten side. He made the hard yards, led by example and looked a class above every other Bedwas player on the day. Tom Cooper tackled well and the pack scrummaged well but Ponty were too good on the day. Bedwas must lift their game for next Sundays trip to Ebbw Vale for what is now a must win game.
