Neath RFC 34- Bedwas RFC 13, Welsh Premiership, Saturday 20 October 2007.
Match report by Geoff Watkins, photography by Ian Lovell
Playing at the Gnoll against the Premiership champions and current Division leaders was always going to be a tough proposition for Bedwas. Although it was a close first half battle, Neath gained a narrow half time 15-10 lead. Indeed Bedwas scored the first try of the day, good work in midfield by Phil Dollman setting up Matthew Pizey for a try in the corner. Any hopes the visitors had of recording another win at the Gnoll disappeared as defensive errors were seized upon for Neath to build up an increasing gap to finish 34-13 and gain a bonus try point.
Bedwas Coach Steve Law
'High statistics in eliminating basic errors are needed if you are to account for sides like Neath and the bottom line is that we made too many mistakes.'
Neath coach Roland Phillips
'Bedwas have always proved difficult nuts to crack and we had prepared well. The way we responded to their early try set the tone and we built on it. We have been rotatng the squad successfully which shows we have a strong and capable bench.'
